The manufacturing sector is poised to grow in India, thanks to various Government schemes such as the PLI, focused efforts on the sunshine sectors, the stress on the ‘Make in India’ program to put India on the global map for manufacturing, and the China + 1 strategy adopted by many MNCs, leading to fresh investments by the OEMs. India has an opportunity to grow and be the next manufacturing hub and supplier of choice not only for the domestic market but also for the global markets.
Mr. P Ramadas, Managing Director, Ace Manufacturing Systems Ltd (AMS), Past President, IMTMA, says, “Inefficiency in logistics due to the short supply of containers or port unavailability is forcing us to look at the possibility of manufacturing some of the imported parts in-house. A large pool of engineers, cost competitiveness, comparatively low wages, a young labour force, technical capabilities, and robust demand for manufactured goods in the domestic market are all contributing to make India a manufacturing powerhouse.”
Hurdles in the Way
“We can see new business models coming up to cater to the demand in manufacturing, especially in the automobile-EV and ICE vehicles and auto components manufacturing sector. Contract manufacturing, JVs, collaborations, and technology licensing for manufacturing are the new trends,” he further adds. “In the future, non-availability of skilled manpower, the inability to scale up by the MSMEs, lack of speed in innovation by manufacturers, and limitations in the supply chain can be some of the major hurdles in the growth of the Indian manufacturing sector.”
According to Mr. Ramadas, Chennai is rightly called India’s Detroit. Anything that moves from Buses to Battle Tanks are made here. The support and assistance of Central and State Governments besides the active involvement of the local industry has turned the State into the manufacturing hub of India. He adds, “ACMEE, which is happening in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is an excellent platform to showcase our products. The show attracts a good number of pertinent customers. It’s always a pleasure to participate in the show. We are mainly aiming to meet customers from industries including auto, component export, die & mould, general engineering, and electronic component manufacturing.”
Displaying Expertise
He plans to launch big-sized machines for the die & mould sector and high-speed drill tap centers for the electronic industry at ACMEE 2023. He explains, “We see the demand for these machines going up in the coming future. Also, to augment subtractive machining, our additive manufacturing company, Amace, has launched new products to cater to the new demands of the market.”
“We have also introduced Smart Manufacturing with Industrial IoT solutions. IoT will enable manufacturing productivity with Industry 4.0, which will optimize the customer’s factory and help increase their productivity,” Mr. Ramadas concludes. “We at AMS, have always paid heed to our customers’ needs and expectations and offered solutions. We have always been customer-centric, and we will continue to be so.”
